Looking ahead to the game away to St Helens Town on Saturday:
"After an indifferent start to the season, St Helens have picked up in recent games, only losing to two of the better teams in the division. Couple this with the fact that they play on a 4G pitch, which is an advantage for them, this will be a very stern test for us. We've done ok recently, however, as we have said before, we need to control games better to improve. Rather than just having short spells controlling games, we want to get into a position where we are dominant for longer periods. Of course that's a tough ask for a team still learning how to play together, but the players have been told what we are after, and we'll keep pushing them for more.
"This is a critical point of the season and we must push hard in the coming weeks to get into the play-off places, and to keep in touch with the teams at the top of the division. If we don't then we could just as easily find ourselves at the wrong end of the table in a dogfight, that is how football goes.
"On Saturday we're down to the bare bones due to injuries and players unavailable. So the squad will be fully tested. We are of course looking forward to the game and your support will, as ever, be much appreciated.
Come On AFC!
